3. Some Comments of the HTSg Maglev Project

On February 11, 2001, the HTSg Maglev project passed the national inspection, which was organized by the chief scientist of superconductivity of 863 Program, Academician GAN Zizhao.

The main comments are: The project has obtained and exceeded the expected intension in the original contract. The vehicle is a creative production of years of hard work, which made possible the innovating and spanning development in MagLev technology. Through the effort of the program staff, great breakthrough has been taken in the field of HTSg Maglev. The successful development of this vehicle indicates that the research work of Applied Superconductivity Laboratory ranks high in the world. The bases have also been established for the application of HTSg Maglev in the field of transportation and other fields, which carves out the direction of the spanning development.

In 2001, the first manned HTSg Maglev test vehicle ranked the second of the Top Ten Significant Achievements in Science and Technology of Chinese Universities. The Top Ten Achievements, which is established and published by the Ministry of Education of China yearly, manifest the innovation strength of Chinese universities in the science and technology. The comment on the HTSg Maglev test vehicle said, "Southwest Jiaotong University successfully researched and developed the automatic high-temperature superconductivity measurement and control system and first studied the performance of high-temperature superconductors levitated above the permanent magnetic guideway. The world first manned high-temperature superconducting maglev test vehicle has shown great potential in both R&D and commercialization." Top

4. Social Benefit

The manned HTSg Maglev has been given high praise from many colleagues home and abroad, among those are Professor Weh of Braunschweig University, Germany, Professor Gawalek from IPHT, Germany, Professor Murakami from ISTEC, Japan, Los Alamos National Laboratory, U.S.A, and Argonne National Laboratory, U.S.A.

Jing Zeming, Hu Jintao, Li Lanqing, Wen Jiabao and other national leaders took the vehicle by themselves, and presented high praise. The people who had taken the vehicle also include Wang Daheng and Yang Jiachi (two initiators of 863 Program). Many ministers of the national ministry also took the test vehicle, such as Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Railway, the Ministry of Transportation and etc. Commissioners of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference etc also took the vehicle. Besides, many high officials, university presidents, experts from more than 10 countries have visited our laboratory and took the test vehicle, and also expressed high praise.

The successful research and development of the first manned HTSg Maglev test vehicle was reported by the Science and Technology Publisher in headline of front page, People's Daily (abroad version) in front page, and Beijing Weekly the front page. The magazine Overlook gave a special report on the program. Among the reports of the Xinhua News Agency on the 15th anniversary exhibition of National 863 High Tech R&D Program, there are only 6 photos and the HTSg Maglev vehicle ranked the first.

News and special reports have also been played in TV home and abroad for many times. Top
